Tokenization
Tokenization is a security process that replaces sensitive data (like a 16-digit credit card number) with a non-sensitive equivalent called a "token."
The token has no intrinsic or exploitable meaning or value and cannot be reverse-engineered. If a tokenized database is breached, the stolen tokens are useless to hackers. Tokenization allows merchants to securely orchestrate returning customers and "one-click" checkouts without storing true cardholder data in their own servers.
