Settlement

Settlement is the final phase of a payment transaction. After authorization and capture, settlement occurs when the acquirer deposits the corresponding funds (minus processing fees) into the merchant's business bank account.

This is usually done in bulk at the end of a business day. Settlement timelines vary by processor, ranging from instant payouts to T+2 (transaction day plus two business days) or longer for high-risk accounts.
