Address Verification System (AVS)

The Address Verification System (AVS) is a fraud prevention tool used in card-not-present (CNP) transactions to verify the billing address provided by the customer against the address on file with the card issuer.

AVS checks the numeric portions of the address (e.g., zip code and street number). Depending on the match result (full match, partial match, or no match), merchants can configure rules to automatically accept, flag, or decline the transaction to reduce fraud exposure.
